New Delhi, Apr 3: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the senior leadership of the Army at the ongoing Army Commanders’ Conference, underscored the need for heightened military preparedness in response to evolving global security challenges.

The four-day event, being held in New Delhi from April 1 to April 4, serves as a crucial platform for the Army’s top leadership to assess national security scenarios, border management, and the future trajectory of defence modernisation. Reaffirming the unwavering trust of over a billion Indians in the Army, Rajnath Singh lauded its pivotal role in safeguarding national security, combating terrorism, and supporting civil administration in times of crisis. “The Army is present in every domain—from security and humanitarian assistance to medical support—ensuring stability and contributing to national development,” he stated. In his address, the Defence Minister highlighted the impact of global geopolitical shifts on India’s strategic landscape, stressing that “unconventional and asymmetric warfare, including hybrid threats, will shape future conflicts.”

He emphasised that modern warfare now encompasses cyber, information, communication, trade, and finance, urging the Armed Forces to integrate these dimensions into their strategic planning.

On border security, Singh expressed full confidence in the Army’s operational readiness, particularly along the Northern borders, and commended the troops for their unwavering vigilance. He also praised the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for significantly enhancing infrastructure in difficult terrain.

Regarding cross-border terrorism, the Defence Minister acknowledged the Indian Army’s firm response while noting that proxy war threats persist. He applauded the synergy between the Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and local law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir, which has contributed to greater regional stability.

Singh also stressed the importance of defence diplomacy in advancing national security objectives and called for a strategic reorientation of the role of Defence Attachés in line with India’s evolving global position. Recognising the rapid technological advancements in warfare, he commended the Army’s efforts in indigenous defence production, collaboration with civil industries, and engagement with institutions like NITI Aayog to drive ‘Atmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence.

The Defence Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of veterans and the families of fallen soldiers. He urged the Armed Forces to continuously refine their doctrines, enhance their operational capabilities, and take forward recommendations from the conference with a structured review mechanism.
