Day Care Centers for elderly people to be opened in Srinagar, Budgam
Srinagar, Nov 23: Jammu and Kashmir Senior Citizens Council today said that it has decided to establish Day Care Centers in Srinagar and Gopalpora where senior citizens may assemble and share their experiences, sorrows, difficulties and put forward their suggestions and grievances.
At a press briefing in Wazirbagh Srinagar which was addressed by Senior Advocate Abdul Rashid Hanjura (renowned social activist), he said that they are establishing a senior citizen council in UT in order to address the issues concerning senior citizens and old age persons of the UT.
It was observed that senior citizens and old aged persons without source of income are facing many problems and the society as well as government is negligent towards these issues of senior citizens and old age persons are not getting monthly financial assistance in time.
A petition was filed on behalf of senior citizens before National Human Rights Commission New Delhi and cognisance was taken by the commission for redressal of
grievances.
“Awareness generation among the masses is needed so that society is sensitized regarding rights of senior citizens and the younger generation is aware of their duties towards parents and senior citizens.”
