CS-led 9-member panel to implement 3 Criminal laws in J&K

Jammu, Mar 16: The government Saturday constituted UT Level Steering Committee-led by the Chief Secretary to ensure successful implementation of three Criminal Laws namely Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023; Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshaya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per its terms of reference, the committee will formulate a time-bound roadmap for the successful implementation of the three new laws viz. “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshaya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, well before the date of enforcement, which has been notified as July 1, 2024.

Besides the Chief Secretary, J&K as its chairman, Principal Secretary Home Department; Director General of Police, J&K or his representative not below the rank of ADGP; Director General of Police (Prisons), J&K; Director General of Prosecution, J&K; Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs; Judicial Officer to be nominated by the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, in consultation with the High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, J&K will be its members.

The Additional Secretary, Home Department, will be its member secretary.
