Handwara, Apr 04: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court Handwara has directed the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara to submit a detailed factual report on allegations of medical negligence, following an application filed by one faction of Bar Association Handwara.

The Bar Association led by Advocate Abdul Rashid Malik has filed an application before the CJM Handwara, raising serious concerns over alleged medical negligence at Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara.

In an application, the Bar Association Handwara, represented by its President, Advocate Abdul Rashid Malik, and other senior members, stated that the hospital has failed to provide timely and adequate medical care, leading to preventable patient deaths. The petition points to severe shortages of medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, and a lack of proper supervision by the administration.

The applicants urged the court to intervene and direct the hospital to ensure proper healthcare facilities with trained professionals, citing the institution’s legal and ethical responsibility towards patient care.

The court has issued an order, acknowledging the gravity of the allegations and mandating a response from the Principal GMC Handwara.

“In view of the seriousness of the allegations, a response is required from the non-applicant in the interest of justice,” the order stated. The court has set April 11, 2025, as the date for compliance and further hearing.
