Chess Championship for girls kicks off in Bhadarwah

Bhadarwah, June 22: In a significant initiative to enhance cognitive function and mental skills among girls while promoting sports tourism, the AICF Smart Girl FIDE Rating Championship has commenced in Bhadarwah, Jammu and Kashmir.

This national-level girls' chess tournament, the first of its kind in the Chenab region, features 56 participants from 11 states competing over five days. SP Bhadarwah Vinod Sharma and CEO BDA Bal Krishan inaugurated the event.

The championship is being mentored by national champion Arushi Kotwal of Bhadarwah and organized by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) in collaboration with the Bhaderkashi Chess Federation and Amazing Bhadarwah Tourism Association.

CEO BDA Bal Krishan expressed confidence that the tournament would elevate Bhadarwah's profile internationally and attract sports tourism. SP Vinod Sharma emphasised the event's potential to motivate local youth to engage in mental games like chess as an alternative to mobile device usage.

Trina Sen Gupta, a participant from West Bengal, shared her initial apprehension about traveling to this remote area, which has since transformed into a memorable experience. She praised the breathtaking venue and its surroundings.

This event marks a significant step in promoting chess and sports tourism in the region, offering participants a unique blend of competitive play and scenic beauty.
