Building gutted in Sanat Nagar Industrial Estate blaze

Srinagar, Nov 1: A building was gutted in a massive blaze at Sanat Nagar Industrial Estate blaze on Friday evening.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that fire broke out in the Industrial Estate engulfing a building of a steel unit.

He said that a team from Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) is on the spot and extinguished the flames after hectic efforts.

An official of F&ES said that apparently fire started from a portion of a building where the fabrication of steel items was going on. “The fire engulfed the whole building and spread. Soon after hearing about the incident, we rushed several fire tenders on the spot and started a fire-fighting operation. After massive efforts for over three hours we were able to douse the flames,” he said.

He said the cause of the fire was being ascertained. “We are presently busy with cooling operation,” he added.

A spokesperson of SDRF said its QRT from Battalion Headquarters Srinagar promptly rushed to the scene and assisted the fire service in putting out the flames to help prevent further damage.
