BJP to go solo: Tarun Chugh

Srinagar, Aug 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary and J&K incharge, Tarun Chugh Saturday said that the saffron party would contest the assembly polls independently, without entering into any alliances.

The senior BJP leader also launched an attack on the alliance between the National Conference (NC) and Congress, accusing their leaders of double standards and hypocrisy.

He targeted NC President Farooq Abdullah, accusing him of inconsistency in his political rhetoric.

“BJP will not be part of any alliance and will contest the assembly polls with all its strength. Those who once praised Pakistan and sowed discord among the people of J&K are now conveniently talking about unity and integrity,” he told reporters here during a news conference.

Chugh questioned the sincerity behind Abdullah’s words, saying that his calls for unity were a strategic move tied to the upcoming elections.

“Whenever elections are near, he starts talking about unity and integrity,” he said. “The NC President's message was driven more by political convenience than genuine concern for J&K’s future.”

Chugh accused Abdullah and his party of misleading the people with false promises and called the NC’s election manifesto a bundle of lies written to deceive voters.

“Today, Abdullah is today talking about integrity and unity in diversity,” he said. “The person until yesterday spoke favourably about Pakistan. The people who have stripped citizens of their rights are now presenting themselves as champions of humanity and diversity. Every word in their manifesto is written with lies.”

The BJP’s decision to contest elections independently is seen as a significant move in the politically sensitive region, where alliances have traditionally played a crucial role in shaping the electoral landscape.

Chugh’s rhetoric indicates the party’s intent to challenge the NC-Congress alliance aggressively, setting the stage for a highly contested and potentially polarising election campaign in J&K.
