Barring Kokernag, Kashmir records sub-zero minimum temperatures

Srinagar, Nov 25: All other weather stations in Kashmir except Kokernag experienced sub-zero night temperatures a day after a slight increase in mercury.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said that weather would be cloudy during the next 24 hours and there were chances of light rain and snow at isolated places in the higher reaches of Kashmir on November 29 and 30.

“Weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy during the next 24 hours,” the MeT officials said.

They said that from November 27 to 28, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy.

“Also from November 29 to 30, weather generally is likely to be cloudy with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated higher reaches,” the MeT officials said. “From December 1 to 5, weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy.”

They said that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue till November 28 over many places of the Kashmir division.

“Cold weather conditions continued in J&K with Srinagar recording minus 1 degree Celsius on Saturday,” the MeT officials said. “So far, the mercury plummeted to the season’s lowest in Srinagar at minus 1.8 degrees Celsius on November 22.”

They said that the temperature decreased from Friday’s 0.9 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees Celsius above normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.

The MeT officials said that Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 1 degree Celsius, 2.1 degree Celsius below normal.

They said that Pahalgam health resort in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius against minus 3.3 degrees Celsius the previous night, and it was 1 degree Celsius below normal.

The MeT officials said that Kokernag recorded a minimum of 1.5 degrees Celsius, above normal for the place by 0.6 degrees Celsius.

They said Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius against minus 0.2 degrees Celsius the previous night, 0.9 degrees Celsius below normal.

The MeT officials said that north Kashmir’s Kupwara district recorded a low of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

They said Jammu recorded a minimum of 9.3 degrees Celsius, below normal by 2.2 degrees Celsius.
