Asmita Wushu League kicks off in Bandipora
Srinagar, Sep 19: The Asmita Wushu League 2025 was inaugurated on Friday at the Universal Education Trust in Bandipora, bringing together more than 400 girls from across the district in a showcase of sports, empowerment, and rising interest in wushu.
As per a statement, the ceremony was graced by Shabir Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Bandipora, Farooq Ahmed Bhat, a noted educationist, and Padma Shri awardee Faisal Ali Dar.
Over 400 girls from across the district participated in the league, competing in sub-junior, junior, and senior categories. Representing schools, institutions, and clubs, their enthusiastic presence showcased the growing popularity of wushu in Bandipora.
In his address, Shabir Ahmed underlined the role of sports in shaping discipline, resilience, and leadership among youth. He said wushu is not just a sport but a medium to instill confidence and self-defence skills, especially among young girls, and expressed pride in seeing Bandipora’s daughters excel on such a platform.
Farooq Ahmed Bhat highlighted the synergy between sports and holistic education, noting that events like the Asmita Wushu League build character, values, and confidence in children.
Delivering a motivational message, Faisal Ali Dar emphasised that the league goes beyond competition, providing interaction, exposure, and confidence-building opportunities for students.
He linked the initiative with national priorities such as the New Education Policy and sports development schemes, commending the Government of India’s vision in launching the Asmita League.
