Srinagar, July 8: The Indian Army has launched a pan-India D5 Motorcycle Expedition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War. The expedition, which arrived at BB Cantonment, Srinagar on July 6, was flagged off today for its onward journey.

The expedition covers 10,000 km across five different routes, starting from Dhanushkodi, Dwarka, Dinjan, and Delhi, converging at Drass.

It aims to pay homage to the brave soldiers who secured victory in the Kargil War 25 years ago. The riders will navigate challenging terrain, echoing the spirit and determination displayed by the Indian Army on the battlefield.

Organised by the Artillery Directorate, the expedition acknowledges the crucial role played by the Regiment of Artillery during the Kargil War. The team comprises five officers, four JCOs, and seventeen soldiers, including women riders from the Corps of Military Police. They were flagged off from the National War Memorial, New Delhi, on 26 Jun for the final phase, moving along the Northern route via Delhi-Srinagar and culminating at the Kargil War Memorial, Drass.

On July 8, Maj Gen PBS Lamba, GOC 31 Sub Area, flagged off the expedition from Srinagar after the team paid tributes to fallen soldiers at the Chinar War Memorial.

The expedition team also engaged with young students at Army Goodwill School, Wazur, raising awareness about the supreme sacrifices made by Indian Army bravehearts during the Kargil War.
