3rd Tyndale-Biscoe Football Tournament commences
Srinagar, Oct 21: The 3rd Canon C.E. Tyndale-Biscoe Football Tournament, organised by Tyndale-Biscoe School and sponsored by Genius Career Consultancy, commenced today at the Sheikh Bagh Campus.
The tournament has attracted 18 schools from across the valley, with teams eager to compete in this prestigious event. Football, introduced to the school by its founder, Canon C.E. Tyndale-Biscoe, has grown into one of the most popular sports in Kashmir. Though the sport initially faced resistance from the local population, Biscoe's perseverance and passion helped make it a lasting part of the community.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Rita Wilson, an eminent educationist, along with Director of TBMS, Parwez Samuel Kaul, and Dr Insha Bashir, Kashmir's first woman wheelchair basketball player, among other distinguished guests from the sports fraternity.
Principal of TBMS, Mabel Yonzon, warmly welcomed the guests and presented them with tokens of appreciation. In her address, she noted that the participating teams symbolize the bright future of football in the region.
Following the introduction of the teams, a pledge was taken by the Sports Captain of Tyndale-Biscoe School, reminding all players to compete with honour and to uphold the values of teamwork and fair play. The Chief Guest, Wilson, emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of students and encouraged the players to give their best. The coveted tournament trophy was then unveiled by the Director, Parwez Samuel Kaul.
The first match of the tournament was played between DPS Baramulla and Doon International School. Both teams showcased exceptional skill and determination on the field, but DPS Baramulla secured a last-minute goal to claim victory. The Man of the Match award was presented to Tufail Sultan from DPS Baramulla.
The second match of the day was held between JK Sainik School, Manasbal, and Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute, with both teams putting on a thrilling display of football talent. Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute won the match by 5-1. The Man of the Match award was presented to Muntazir Shafi from Kashmir Harvard.
