Anjuman Urdu Sahafat holds workshop on changing journalism demands
Srinagar, Dec 4: Anjuman Urdu Sahafat in collaboration with JK Urdu Council organised a one-day workshop in Poonch , focused on the “Changing Demands of Journalism in the Modern Era.”
The event brought together journalists from the Pir Panchal region as well as students from Government Degree College, Poonch. The workshop aimed to address contemporary challenges in journalism, highlighting key aspects of journalistic ethics, evolving practices, and the impact of digital media.
Renowned journalist and Voice of America correspondent, Yousuf Jameel, discussed the shifting landscape of journalism, emphasising the importance of professionalism, impartiality, and adherence to ethical standards. He urged journalists to remain focused on their core responsibilities and avoid getting distracted by unnecessary issues.
BBC Correspondent Riyaz Masroor presented a session on digital reporting, distinguishing it from traditional journalism. He encouraged reporters to adopt globally recognised digital reporting styles while cautioning against the rush and competition that often characterises the modern media environment.
The workshop also featured insights from online contributor Rashid Maqbool, who spoke about the various nuances of journalistic reporting. Senior Kashmir-based journalist Sibti Mohammad Hassan delivered a detailed talk on the principles of field reporting and ethical guidelines for journalists in the field.
Anjuman Urdu Sahafat President Riyaz Malik outlined the organisation’s mission to promote professional development for journalists in the region, while Vice President Ishrat Hussain Bhat provided an overview of upcoming initiatives and programs.
At the conclusion of the event, certificates were presented to participants, acknowledging their commitment to enhancing their journalistic skills. Jammu and Kashmir Urdu Council General Secretary Javid Matji delivered the presidential address, while Javed Kermani opened the proceedings. Other notable attendees included Syed Habib, Vice Patron of Jamia Zia-ul-Uloom, District Information Officer Chetan Sharma, and other community leaders.
The event was successfully conducted, with General Secretary Bilal Farqani thanking all participants for their involvement. The workshop was hosted by Ihtesham Hussain Mohtashim.
