Bandipora, Oct 19: The 7th UT Rowing and Sculling Indoor Championship concluded at Government High School, Bagh, Bandipora, with over 150 athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir showcasing their strength and endurance in a spirited display of talent and sportsmanship.

As per a statement issued on Sunday, competitors, both boys and girls, showcased their endurance, determination, and talent across multiple age categories in a thrilling display of sporting excellence.

The championship was organised with the vision of encouraging youth participation, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and identifying potential talent who can represent Jammu and Kashmir at national and international levels. Beyond competition, the event aimed to inspire young people to embrace sports as a tool for personal growth, discipline, and community building.

Rowing and sculling, though relatively new to the region, have gained tremendous momentum in recent years, symbolising Bandipora’s growing identity as a hub for water sports in Jammu and Kashmir UT.

The closing ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including Bilquis Mir, Tanvir Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed from the Sports Advisory Board, Bandipora, and Mohammad Muzaffar from the Baramulla Association.

In her address, Bilquis Mir lauded the organisers for their tireless efforts in promoting water sports in the region and commended the young athletes for their commitment and sportsmanship. She emphasised the need to nurture and support such talent to build a strong sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir.

Tanvir Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed extended their congratulations to the participants and organisers, encouraging the youth to continue pursuing excellence in sports, which not only builds character but also strengthens the social fabric of the region. Athletes from across J&K exhibited remarkable strength, technique, and perseverance, reflecting the growing standard of rowing in the Union Territory.
