5 DPS Srinagar students to represent India at Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship
Srinagar, Sep 26: Five students from Delhi Public School Srinagar have been selected to represent India at the 3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship, underway at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex with athletes from 11 countries competing.
As per a statement, the event was inaugurated on 26th September by the Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, in the presence of the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma; MLA Lal Chowk, Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi); Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul;coaches, officials, and athletes from across Asia.
The students who will proudly don the tricolour are Hurriyah Showkat, Class 11; Samma, Class 11; Alishiba Jeelani, Class 11; Mysha Bilal, Class 10; and Nehal Zubair, Class 10.
Expressing her pride, Principal Shafaq Afshan said, "This is a remarkable accomplishment and a proud moment for the entire DPS Srinagar community.”
Chairman Vijay Dhar also shared his delight, adding, "To have five of our own represent the nation is a matter of great honour. It reflects not only the students’ perseverance but also the quality and commitment of training at our institution. We wholeheartedly support them and wish them the very best as they compete with the finest athletes in Asia. They are a source of inspiration for us all.”
