The condition of Jammu Srinagar National Highway stretch between Banihal to Nashri in Ramban district has been worsening with each passing day since the execution work was started for four lanning.

Although, the contractor companies responsible for maintenance of the Highway claim that they have been maintaining the Highway as and when required but the potholes, cracks and pitiable condition of the stretch tells the ground reality.

Sources said that as per the agreement between National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor companies, the latter were assigned the task of maintenance and repair of the old alignment till the road is developed into four lane.

People alleged that the contractor companies are filling pot holes and ditches with clay and

pebbles collected from construction sites which according to them is not of any use as it is being washed away by the vehicles and during rains.

The dilapidated Highway stretch is hampering movement of vehicular traffic resulting in frequent jams.

However, the management of concerned contractor companies claimed that they repair the road whenever the need arises and have also macadamized it at various places during last two years since the execution work was started.
