People from different villages of Surankote demanded the Governor-led administration to sanction a special project for up-gradation of power infrastructure in Surankote Tehsil, while highlighting the poor infrastructure of power sector in the area.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, people from different villages, including Tariq Mughal from Shindra village, and people from other villages, including Madana, Lathoong, Lassana, Dhundak, Sanai, Marhote and Moorha Bachai, said that several houses in these villages are receiving power after making temporary arrangements of poles and wiring network.

"At several places, power wires have been tied on trees as the department has failed to provide poles, while people have purchased and laid wires for several metres,” the locals claimed. They demanded that the authorities should pay due concern towards providing wires and poles so that the basic issues due to infrastructure shortage are overcome.

When contacted by Greater Kashmir, Assistant Executive Engineer PDD informed that a project to overcome shortage of poles and wires stands submitted for sanction under a centrally sponsored scheme and problems will be solved once the project is approved.
