Srinagar, June 16: The President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the constitution of India the President is pleased to appoint Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, to the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court with effect from the date he assumes the charge of the office,” said a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.
Born in April 1955 in Rajpora village of Pulwama district, Justice Mir completed his LL B in 1978 from Kashmir University. He secured first position in J&K Judicial Services Examination in 1992 and was appointed as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kupwara in May 1993. He also served Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anantnag for three years.
 In 1998, Justice Mir was transferred as Presiding Officer, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal & Transport Appellate Authority, Srinagar for two years before being transferred as Principal District & Sessions Judge, Budgam in 2000 for two years. He has the distinction of being first Judicial Officer to be posted as Presiding Officer, Designated Court of TADA/Special Judge, POTA for Kashmir division from May 2002 till September, 2004.
He was subsequently posted as Principal District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar from September 2004, till his elevation as Additional Judge of J&K High Court.  He was appointed as additional Judge of the High Court of in January 2005.
Justice Mir was honoured with the award of American Medal of Honour in 2004 by the “The American Biographical Institute Board of International Research” for his meritorious service to entire community and outstanding professional achievements.
He was appointed as Permanent Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir on July 2007. He was transferred to the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and took over as acting Chief Justice in November 2013. He would take oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on June 18.
