The army Tuesday paid tribute to its soldier Baljeet who was killed a gunfight in southern Pulwama district.

Baljeet sustained bullet injuries during a fierce operation at Ratnipora village. He was evacuated to 92 base hospital in Srinagar, but succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement, an army spokesman said the Chinar corps commander lieutenant general KJS Dhillon and all ranks paid homage to the soldier “on behalf of a proud nation”.

“In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies were also present to pay their last respects to the soldier”, the statement read.

“The mortal remains of the deceased soldier were taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and well being,” the statement added.
