The department of students’ welfare, university of Jammu in collaboration with directorate of physical education on Monday organised an interaction-cum-presentation programme titled “Know Your Police and Career Counseling” for the students and the scholars of the varsity.

As per the release, the SSP Jammu, Tajinder Singh was the main speaker on the occasion while Prof Shailendra Singh Jamwal, DSW delivered the welcome address.   

The programme was followed by an interactive session of the SSP Jammu with the gathering. Tejinder Singh was very forthcoming about the public perception of police and asked the students to interact candidly with him.

He said that he wouldn’t shy away from the ills infesting the police department, but would bear the responsibility for it and try to bring about a definite positive the change.

“But there is also another face of the police force-sacrifice. In our State which is militancy ridden, every hour a policeman is laying down his life to ensure our peace,” the SSP said.

He acquainted the students with the history of JKP and also spoke on the nature of the job that demands a 24x7 commitment on part of the police force.

He also spoke about the public perception of police. He stated that it is based as much on rumor and gossip as on reality. He further added that that there has been an active drive within the police department to plug the various loopholes of the system and “very soon the public will see a positive change in the functioning and dealing of the police department.”

The presentation was followed by an interaction of the students and faculty with the officers. Many students shared their bitter and sweet experiences and asked about various aspects of the working of police.

The SSP Jammu and other police officers present on the occasion answered most of the queries of the students.  

DrDaud Iqbal Baba, director, directorate of physical education also addressed the students and stressed upon the importance of such events.
