Infiltration bid foiled: BSF

Border Security Force troopers foiled a bid by a group of infiltrators in Bobiyan area of Samba on Wednesday morning, said Jammu Frontier inspector general BSF Ram Avtar.

He said the infiltrators and the troopers exchanged a “few rounds of fire”.

Bobiyan is the area where the troopers had noticed “suspicious movement” a couple of days ago, leading army, police and BSF to launch a joint hunt for the suspected persons.

Also, on Tuesday, BSF director general KK Sharma told reporters that about five militants have managed to sneak into the Indian side through a tunnel—which is yet to be found— under the International Border in Hiranagar area.

Border areas are already on a high alert ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on May 19. He is scheduled to address the convocation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) in the afternoon. The university is situated in RS Pura, an area near the border.

Today’s was the fourth infiltration bid to be foiled by the BSF along the IB in the past four days and second in less than 24 hours, according to BSF.

On the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, a 28-year-old BSF trooper was killed after Pakistani troops opened fire at forward posts in Manguchak area of Samba. The BSF believes the firing was “meant to provide cover to infiltrators”.

Meanwhile, a BSF officer said search was on for the tunnel the five militants are believed to have used to enter into Hiranagar.
