The Kashmir University (KU) has asked the degree colleges to constitute counseling cells in every department for pre-admission counseling for undergraduate courses.

In this regard an advisory has been issued by the controller examination department Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir to all the college principals.

As per the advisory, the college principals have been asked to constitute counseling cells in all the departments of the colleges wherein the students will get proper counseling before opting for any course offered by the college.

“The move will prove helpful for the students to study the subjects of their choice. Otherwise students opt for subjects on advice of their friends or relatives,” an official said.

Besides core subjects opted in the first semester, the undergraduate students have to opt for skill based subjects from 3rd semester onwards in addition to their general subjects.

“At this stage, the students need more counseling from college faculty so that the skill based subject chosen by them doesn’t prove irrelevant for them at the end of the day,” a KU official said.

He said the students at times chose skill based subject for which the faculty is not available in the said college or he is not capable enough to grasp the subject.

“From the upcoming session in colleges particularly 1st and 5th semester students, the counseling of the students will be done on priority,” the official said.

Controller examination Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir said the move will help the students to choose their subjects as per their capability and interest.

He said the students after qualifying class 12th exams come in colleges as “raw” and need proper counseling to choose their career.
