Kargil, Jan 9: The authorities have ordered the closure of the Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway from January 11 to January 13 citing icy road conditions and maintenance work of the road.

The Traffic Police Ladakh issued a public notice informing commuters, drivers, and tourists that the Kargil-Srinagar National Highway at Zojila Pass would remain closed for traffic from January 11 to January 13.

It said that the decision had been taken due to icy road conditions caused by inclement weather and to facilitate maintenance work by road maintenance agencies.

“It is hereby informed to the people of Ladakh, especially commuters, drivers, and tourists that traffic on the Kargil-Srinagar National Highway (Zojila Pass) will remain suspended due to icy road conditions and maintenance work on the road to be carried out by the concerned road maintaining agencies from January 11 to 13. Traffic will resume on the highway on January 14 subject to weather conditions,” an order from the Traffic Police Ladakh said.

The order read that keeping in view inclement weather conditions and scheduled road maintenance, commuters and passengers have been advised to restrict their journeys till ‘green signal’ from the concerned road maintenance agencies and to avoid inconvenience as well as any untoward incident while travelling.

The commuters and passengers have been advised to undertake the journey on the route only after confirming the status of the road from the Police Control Room and Traffic Police.
