Zero-tolerance against narcotics for J&K’s drug-free future: LG Sinha

Srinagar, May 14:  Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday said that to make Jammu and Kashmir drugs-free, there is zero tolerance against narcotics.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review the functioning of the Home Department, the LG said, “We have adopted a policy of zero tolerance against drugs to make J&K drugs-free. Police, civil administration, and people should work together to eliminate this menace.”

He directed the officials to ensure the installation and operational efficiency of fire safety equipment in government and public buildings.

LG Sinha also discussed issues related to strengthening of Police and allied organisations.

He also discussed measures taken by the department for implementation of new criminal laws, which would come into effect from July 1, 2024.

The LG also instructed the department for proper training of Police personnel on new criminal laws.

He emphasised on efficient prison management and took stock of the progress of projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).

Earlier, during the meeting, the chair was briefed on the security grid, establishment of the Police Data Centre, modernisation of Forensic capacities and other projects under Security Related Expenditure (SRE).

The meeting also deliberated on the operationalisation of drug de-addiction centres and measures to tackle the drug menace.

Advisor to LG, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar; Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo; DGP Rashmi Ranjan Swain, Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti; Principal Secretary to LG, Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
