Srinagar, Sep 25: The Zamin Foundation, in collaboration with Urban Forestry, Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department, and SP College, Srinagar, today organised an awareness session on forest conservation in J&K, aimed at educating students on the importance of preserving the region’s rich forest ecosystems.

The session was inaugurated by Prof Kaiser Bashir, Department of Environmental Science, SP College, who welcomed B A Sheikh, Principal of SP College, the guest speakers, the faculty, and the students. He highlighted the college’s commitment to environmental education and its role in fostering ecologically conscious citizens.

Sheikh Idrees Ahmed of Zamin Foundation opened the proceedings by outlining the foundation’s ongoing environmental initiatives and its mission to promote sustainable community development and ecological balance in the region.

The keynote address was delivered by Range Officer, Urban Forestry, J&K Forests, Shiba.

She provided an insightful presentation on forest conservation challenges, the role of the Forest Department in protection and management, and the importance of active participation from local communities. She also discussed the ‘Van Darshani’ programme by the J&K Forest Department and its benefits for children. After the presentation, students asked questions about forest fires, forest protection policies, and more.

Shiba also invited the Echo Club of SP College to participate in the Echo Trek to Zabarwan Hills.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Parvaiz Ahmed, who thanked the Zamin Foundation, J&K Forest Department, college administration, and students for their participation and collaborative effort in making the session a success.
