Srinagar, May 11: Residents of Zaina Kadal area in downtown Srinagar have raised serious concerns over the increasing dog menace in their locality, with many claiming they are unable to even step out for Fajr (morning) prayers due to fear of stray dog attacks.

"We are not even able to offer Fajr prayers peacefully," said Mohammad Yousuf, resident of Zaina Kadal. "When we try to leave our homes early in the morning for the mosque, packs of aggressive stray dogs have made it extremely dangerous. Many elderly people have stopped going altogether."

According to local residents, the population of stray dogs has increased significantly in recent months, with packs of dogs roaming the narrow lanes of this densely populated area of old Srinagar city. Multiple incidents of dog bites have been reported, with victims including children and elderly residents.

The situation becomes particularly problematic during early morning hours when residents leave for Fajr prayers and late evenings when many return from work. "The dogs become more aggressive during these hours. Just last week, a 12-year-old boy was attacked while going to the local bakery," said Saima Bhat, another resident.
