Zahara Batool wins Ladakh’s 1st Taekwondo Gold at National School Games
Kargil, Dec 23: Zahara Batool from Tambis Kargil has secured Ladakh's first-ever gold medal in Taekwondo at the 68th National School Games Championship in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.
Competing in the Under-55 Kg U-19 Girls category, the GHSS Akchamal student defeated opponents from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra before clinching victory against Kerala in the finals. Her teammate Deasal Angmo, representing JAME Kargil in the Under-46 Kg category, reached the pre-quarterfinals. The two-member team was guided by Coach Mohammad Ali and Team Manager Abdul Hamid.
Master Atul Pangotra, Chief Technical Advisor of Ladakh Taekwondo Association and Olympic Referee, awarded Zahara `5100 and an international Taekwondo kit. Both athletes train at the SAI Training Centre in Kargil under Coach Mohammad Ali and Parveen Kumar.
Ladakh Taekwondo Association President Gulzar Hussain Munshi congratulated the team and acknowledged the support of Joint Director of Sports Tahir Hussain Zubdavi and DYSSO Kargil Abid Hussain in fostering local sports talent.
This milestone victory strengthens Ladakh's position in national-level Taekwondo competitions.
