This essential infrastructure not only ensures year-round accessibility to Sonamarg, but also has the potential to transform it into a vibrant hub for tourism throughout the seasons.” “The increased visitor flow will not only benefit our local businesses within the hospitality and service sectors but will also promote the rich culture and breathtaking natural beauty that this region has to offer.”

“By enhancing travel experiences and fostering greater connectivity, we are excited about the prospects it brings for local employment opportunities, improved livelihoods, and increased promotion of Sonamarg as a must-visit destination. We look forward to working alongside the government to maximize these opportunities and ensure that the tourism sector flourishes.”

Perched at an altitude of 8,500 feet above sea level, the Z-Morh tunnel is designed to provide reliable year-round connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg, effectively bypassing the hazardous roads frequently obstructed by landslides and avalanches.

The strategic Sonamarg tunnel project, with a total investment of Rs 2,700 crores, spans 12 kilometers and includes various components such as an egress tunnel, roads, and bridges. The 6.4-kilometer Z-Morh tunnel, now officially designated as the Sonamarg tunnel, will also serve as a vital link connecting the beautiful Valley with Ladakh.
