Srinagar, Aug 9: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Srinagar is engaging hundreds of young athletes in judo, wushu, taekwondo, thang-ta, and cricket tournaments, providing a competitive platform to hone their skills ahead of inter-district and provincial championships.

The initiative, as per a statement, aims to explore and hone both individual and collective skills, offering young participants a platform to prepare for larger competitive events.

Boys and girls from various age brackets showcased their talents in disciplines such as judo, wushu, taekwondo, and thang-ta at the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground.

Selected players in these sports will undergo advanced training until August 12, 2025, at the same venue, preparing them to compete at inter-district and provincial levels.

Over 200 young athletes have already participated in these events.

In another major sporting event, the DYSSO Srinagar organised the Inter-Zonal/District Level Cricket Tournament for boys under 14 at S.P. College Ground.

Teams from all eight zones of Srinagar took part in the competition.

Meanwhile, Zone Amirakadal successfully concluded its boys’ U-19 cricket tournament at the same venue, attracting more than 120 young cricketers.

In the final, S.P. Higher Secondary School defeated BHSS Khonmoh by seven wickets.

Principal Ajaz Reshi of S.P. HSS, along with other dignitaries, attended the final match to motivate the players and later presented trophies to the winning and runner-up teams.
