Kathua Oct 16: The Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K remains committed to promoting sports as a fundamental part of youth development. By organising different sports events, the Department aims to encourage participation, enhance skills, and cultivate a spirit of healthy competition among the youth of J&K.

In this regard, an Inter-Division UT Level Cricket Tournament for Under-17 Boys was inaugurated on Wednesday. This thrilling event is taking place from October 16 to October 18, 2024, at the picturesque Kathua sports ground, showcasing the area’s budding cricket talent.

This tournament is part of the annual sports calendar issued by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, and is being conducted under the meticulous guidance of the Director General of Youth Services and Sports, J&K. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Chief Education Officer Kathua as the chief guest, alongside the Principal of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Kathua, who served as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were DYSSO Kathua, Sh Sunil Singh Sambyal, ZPEO Barnoti, and various field staff members from District Kathua.

During the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Guest emphasized the significance of sports in the development of youth, stating, "Sports not only foster teamwork and discipline but also play a crucial role in character building." He urged the student players to embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, reminding them that winning and losing are both part of the game, but the experience and camaraderie gained through participation are invaluable.

DYSSO Kathua, Sunil Singh Sambyal, welcomed the dignitaries and players from both divisions, highlighting the importance of such tournaments in providing a platform for youth to showcase their sporting skills and foster a competitive spirit.
