Srinagar Jun 1: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K organised a series of high-energy events across multiple districts of the UT to mark World Environment Day 2025 and promote the Fit India Movement.

As per a statement issued on Sunday, thousands of students, YSS field staff, and local residents participated in marathons, cyclothons, and awareness rallies, underscoring the twin themes of fitness and sustainability. Under the guidance of Director General YSS J&K Rajinder Singh Tara, a cycle rally was held at Udhampur to raise awareness about climate action, drawing 332 participants across 11 sports zones. Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) led the event, with notable participation from Zone Chenani (30), Udhampur (50), and Pancheri (32).

Similarly, despite heavy rain, Anantnag’s Sunday on Bicycle (Fit India) and Walkathon (World Environment Day) saw 250 participants, including young cyclists Aleena Aashaq and Khadija Bint Suhail. Zones like Bidder, Mattan, and Verinag mirrored the enthusiasm, blending fitness with ecological messaging.

At Kishtwar district, Walkathon/Marathon rallied 230 students – 130 boys and 100 girls – under the campaign Ending Plastic Pollution Globally. Cleanliness drives and awareness sessions complemented the movement, aligning with the global theme of land restoration.

Meanwhile, Jammu’s more than one thousand cyclists across 14 sports zones braved humid weather, while Budgam’s 12-zone fiesta pedalled through rain, echoing Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz.

Srinagar & Baramulla took out rain-defying rallies. In Srinagar, 160 cyclists traversed city landmarks despite downpours. Baramulla’s rally culminated at GDC Boys Khawaja Bagh, with DIO Iftikhar Naseem felicitating top performers.

Similarly, Bandipora’s 130 cyclists rode from Kangri Chowk to SK Stadium amid rain, while Pulwama’s event, flagged off by ADC Mohammad Ashraf, saw a strong turnout despite weather challenges.
