YSS Budgam organises district-level plog run
Budgam, May 30: In a powerful show of environmental commitment and youth activism, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Budgam on Thursday organised a district-wide plog run across all 12 zones, ahead of World Environment Day 2025.
The event, as per a statement, saw enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, and officials, combining fitness with civic responsibility to promote ecosystem restoration.
The event was held under the directions of District Youth Services and Sports Officer G.H. Hassan Lone, with enthusiastic participation from all 12 zones of the district.
The Plog Run—a unique blend of jogging and litter collection—witnessed overwhelming involvement from school students, volunteers, and YSS officials across Budgam. Participants not only promoted physical fitness but also contributed actively to keeping the environment clean, aligning with this year’s World Environment Day theme of ecosystem restoration.
Each zone conducted the run simultaneously in their respective areas, showcasing a united commitment to environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. The initiative served as a strong reminder of the role youth can play in building a greener, cleaner future.
Speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Budgam G.H. Hassan Lone praised the collective spirit of students and staff:
"Our aim is to foster a generation that understands the importance of both health and environment. Today’s Plog Run reflects the strength and unity of our youth in addressing global challenges at the grassroots level."
The event concluded with the collection and proper disposal of significant amounts of litter from roadsides, public parks, and school vicinities, further reinforcing the impact of the initiative.
