Jammu, Oct 4: Former Indian cricket coach and legendary player Ravi Shastri has expressed optimism about the future of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the immense potential of the region’s youth.

Shastri, who first played in Srinagar in 1987, reflected on the significant improvements in J&K’s cricketing landscape and the growing enthusiasm of the local community for the sport.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a Legends League Cricket tournament, Shastri emphasised the rise in interest and opportunities for young cricket talent in the region. "There is immense potential here. The youngsters are full of talent, and with the right exposure, they can go far. The presence of legends in events like this is an inspiration for them,” Shastri stated.

Shastri also praised local fast-bowling sensation Umran Malik, who has made a name for himself on the national stage with his raw pace. While applauding his talent, Shastri advised Malik to remain dedicated amidst the fierce competition in Indian cricket. "Umran has the talent, but he will need to stay dedicated and keep working hard. The competition is fierce, but he can achieve great success with determination," he said.

Commenting on the improvements in cricket infrastructure since his last visit 37 years ago, Shastri expressed satisfaction with the upgraded facilities. "The ground looks good, and with some attention to the pitch and the outfield, it can be one of the best in the region," he remarked, pointing to the increasing standards of the game in J&K.

The Legends League Cricket event, which has brought former international stars to Jammu and Kashmir, is seen as a significant opportunity for local players to gain exposure and learn from seasoned professionals. Shastri stressed the importance of such tournaments for nurturing talent and boosting the confidence of young cricketers in the region.
