Young golfer calls for Government push to boost golf culture in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 11: Young golfer Tahir Maqsood Wani, representing the Ahad Sultans' team in the ongoing Kashmir Golf League at the Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC), said tournaments like these were crucial to strengthen the golfing ecosystem in the Valley.
Calling the event “a prestigious golf league similar to the IPL format,” Tahir said, “There are seven teams of nine players each, and everyone is geared up. It’s a great initiative.”
He said such competitive events help golfers refine their temperament and focus. “Tournaments like these make us more serious about the game and help us improve,” he added.
However, he highlighted the lack of infrastructure and maintenance. “Kashmir has a beautiful golf course, but it needs to be maintained properly. The greens and fairways need serious improvement. We can’t compete with courses outside until that is fixed,” he said.
Appealing for government intervention, Tahir urged authorities to provide free access to golf ranges and equipment for young players. “The government should help attract youth toward golf. It can actually pull them away from drugs,” he said.
