Yogi Govt unveils comprehensive safety strategy for Mahakumbh
Mahakumbh Nagar, Dec 29: The Yogi government has rolled out an extensive safety plan to ensure the well-being and seamless movement of the over 40 crore pilgrims expected at the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela, a monumental cultural event.
According to the statement, the Uttar Pradesh Police has established a robust seven-tier security framework designed to provide foolproof protection and facilitate the safe return of devotees.
The Prayagraj Police will play a crucial role in managing the outer security perimeter during the Mela. To enhance this outer cordon, the department has significantly expanded its infrastructure, setting up temporary police stations and checkpoints in both urban and rural areas.
The security presence will be bolstered by the deployment of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Central Armed Police Forces, bomb disposal teams, and other specialized units.
In addition to the security measures within the Mela grounds, police forces will be strategically positioned in both city and rural areas to maintain order and safety. The Prayagraj Police Commissionerate will increase its number of stations from 44 to 57, including the establishment of 13 temporary police stations and 23 checkpoints located near key transit points such as railway stations, bus terminals, and airports.
Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba emphasized that approximately 10,000 police personnel will be deployed across both urban and rural regions of Prayagraj. Designated routes for pilgrims traveling to and from the Kumbh Mela have been identified, with additional security teams in place to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of the large influx of visitors.
The operational framework will consist of 8 zones and 18 sectors, each overseen by senior officers at the ranks of Additional Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police.
