Wreath laying ceremony held at Seri

Nowshera, Aug 18: A wreath laying ceremony was conducted by Kalal Battalion of Indian Army to pay tributes to late Lieutenant Colonel Kanwar Jaideep Singh (July 18, 1961 - August 18, 2002), Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal.

The ceremony was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Seri and was attended by veterans, villagers, and senior military officials, who gathered to honor the sacrifices of a brave soldier who laid down his life fighting terrorists 22 years ago.

The wreath laying was carried out by the Commanding Officer, Kalal Battalion, and Commander, 80 Infantry Brigade, Nowshera in a poignant ceremony that remembered Lt Col Singh's exemplary courage and leadership.

On August 18, 2002, Lt Col Singh, Commanding 6 Dogra on the Line of Control, engaged infiltrating terrorists, evacuating a wounded soldier to safety despite being under fire.

He reorganized a reinforced patrol to pursue and neutralize the escaping terrorists, making the ultimate sacrifice while leading from the front.

For his exemplary display of courage and gallant action, Lt Col Singh was awarded the Bar to Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) on January 26, 2004.

The ceremony was a tribute to his valour and sacrifice, and served as a reminder of the Indian Army's highest traditions.

The event was attended by veterans and villagers, who came to pay their respects to the fallen hero.
