Ganderbal, Oct 10: In observance of World Mental Health Day, Ganderbal Police, in collaboration with District Hospital Ganderbal and the NGO Kashmir Speaks, organised an extensive awareness programme, including rallies and a nukkad natak, to highlight mental well-being and the menace of drug addiction.

The event was held at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ganderbal, and saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, health professionals, and police officers. The awareness rally was flagged off from Beehama and culminated at Duderhama, with participants carrying banners and placards promoting mental health and drug de-addiction messages.

A nukkad natak (street play) by the SR Theatre Group showcased the devastating impact of drug abuse and emphasised the importance of emotional resilience. The performance received widespread appreciation from the audience.

SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal chaired the event and interacted with participants. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the crucial link between mental health and societal stability, urging youth to avoid drugs and serve as ambassadors of awareness in their communities.

Medical experts from District Hospital Ganderbal and representatives from Kashmir Speaks also spoke at the event, sensitising participants about early signs of mental distress, coping strategies, and the importance of seeking timely help.

The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to work collectively towards building a drug-free and mentally healthy society.
