World Fisheries day celebrated in Ganderbal
Ganderbal, Nov 21: The World Fisheries Day was celebrated with full zeal and zest at Trout Fish Farm Mammar in solidarity with the fishermen and fish farmers in Ganderbal across the world on Tuesday.
The day is celebrated worldwide every year to pay tribute to fishermen community who contribute to 25% of the total protein requirement of the human population.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with KVK and Department of Fisheries, Ganderbal.
A function was organised by department of Fisheries Ganderbal at trout fish farm Mammar and was presided over by ADDC Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani; SDM Kangan, Javid Ahmed Rather, Scientists from SKUAST (K) and Central University.
A huge gathering of students and farmers were present on the occasion.
At the outset Assistant Director Fisheries Ganderbal, Salman Rauf Chalkoo welcomed all the guests and briefed the audience about the importance of World Fisheries Day along with the efforts put in by the Department of Fisheries for farmer upliftment and economic upgradation.
In consonance with Yuva Vani under HADP, the students were briefed about the holistic approach to be adopted by the young generation to adopt fish farming and other agricultural practices.
While appreciating the efforts of Fisheries department , ADDC Ganderbal applauded the importance of the world Fisheries day and emphasized the need for sustainable fisheries in and around the world.
The students of the central university Kashmir presented two cultural events of Kashmiri attire. SDM kangan praised the efforts put in by all the stakeholders for management and conservation of Fisheries resources in the state of J&K, with particular reference to District Ganderbal.
The magazine on Holistic Agricultural Development plan was also showcased during the event. the event ended with a vote of thanks to all the participants by AD Fisheries, Ganderbal.
