World Environment Day celebrations conclude at Gulmarg

Gulmarg, June 7:   The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), in collaboration with the Hoteliers Club Gulmarg, Indian Army Gulmarg, and Forest Department Gulmarg, concluded a successful two-day celebration of World Environment Day 2024.

The event, held on the 5th and 6th of June, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, local stakeholders, and dignitaries, emphasising the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living.

The Green Gulmarg Conclave, which culminated the World Environment Day Celebrations, was held at the Golf Club Gulmarg. The conclave, organised under the supervision of CEO Waseem Raja, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa as chief guest along with senior officers including Wildlife Warden Sopore Intisar Suhail. The event was also attended by prominent environmentalists and Heads Travel Associations including Nadeem Qadri noted environmental lawyer, Raja Muzaffar Bhat renowned environmental activist, Rouf Ahmad Trumboo President TAAK, Manzoor Ahmed Pakhtoon,President Houseboat Owners Association as well as Mukhtar Ahmad former President, Hotelier Club Gulmarg and other officers and service providers. The event began with a painting competition for students focusing on the theme of World Environment Day. The competition saw vibrant participation and the winners were felicitated for their creative expressions.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa lauded the GDA for its commendable efforts in organising these initiatives stressing the importance of collective action for environmental sustainability. Nadeem Qadri and Raja Muzaffar Bhat enlightened the audience with their insights about preserving Gulmarg’s pristine beauty. Intisar Suhail, Rouf Tramboo and Manzor Pakhtoon also delivered inspiring speeches underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to save the environment.

CEO Waseem Raja concluded the event with a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and the media for their support. He reiterated the GDA’s commitment to initiatives like Green Gulmarg, a polythene-free and plastic free Gulmarg, and maintaining its natural beauty through sustainable practices.
