World Diabetes Day: GMC Srinagar holds awareness run, health screening camp

Srinagar, Nov 14: To mark World Diabetes Day 2025, the Department of Endocrinology, Government Super Speciality Hospital, GMC Srinagar, organised a series of awareness activities, highlighting the growing burden of diabetes in Kashmir.

At the Super Speciality Hospital, as per a statement issued on Friday, a Screening and Awareness Camp was inaugurated by Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal of GMC Srinagar.

The camp, themed “Managing Diabetes Care in the Workplace”, offered HbA1c tests, blood sugar checks, and thyroid function tests, along with counselling on diet, lifestyle modification, medication adherence, and early detection. The camp drew strong public participation.

Earlier in the day, GMC Srinagar also held a Run for Diabetes Awareness, flagged off by Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan from Nishat to Duck Park Shalimar. The run, attended by faculty and officials including Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Dr Mohammad Hayat (HOD Endocrinology Deptt) and Dr Mir Shahnawaz, promoted active living and community awareness about diabetes prevention. GMC Srinagar reaffirmed their commitment to continued public health initiatives to curb the rising trend of diabetes in the region.
