Baramulla, Dec 1: Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla observed World AIDS Day on Sunday.

The event was marked with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and emphasising prevention, treatment, and support.

This year’s theme, “Take the Right Path to End AIDS: The World Can End AIDS If Everyone's Rights Are Protected,” focused on putting human rights at the center of efforts to eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

The event, organised by the Associated Hospital and GMC Baramulla, included several activities

As part of the ribbon ceremony healthcare professionals were reminded of the importance of World AIDS Day through a symbolic ribbon event.

An awareness rally was also organised in which students and staff participated to promote knowledge about HIV/AIDS among the public. A seminar was conducted in which experts delivered talks on the latest advancements in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.

"World AIDS Day is a vital reminder of the ongoing need to prevent, treat, and support those affected by HIV/AIDS," said the speaker. "We must work together to protect everyone’s rights, especially vulnerable groups, to address the inequalities that fuel this epidemic,” added the speakers.

The event saw active participation from students, faculty, staff, and representatives from local NGOs and community organisations.

Attendees reaffirmed their commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for those affected by HIV/AIDS while advocating for universal access to healthcare and education to combat the disease.
