Workshop on surgical staplers held at GMC Srinagar
Srinagar, Dec 2: Stapling techniques in surgical procedures are transforming the healthcare practices in Kashmir, doctors on Saturday said.
They said that recent advancements in the surgical procedures like use of staplers have played an important role for the surgeons and patients as well.
Dr M R Attri, Professor of Surgery at GMC Srinagar told Greater Kashmir that latest advancements in surgical stapling technology, a critical aspect of modern surgical procedures have helped surgeons across the globe.
"We can use staplers in stomach, bariatric surgeries, neoplastic disorders, distal gastrectomy, subtotal gastrectomy, total gastrectomy, wide local excision, bypass procedures, gastrojejunostomy, cystogastrostomy, hepatobiliary system, intestine, anal canal," Dr Attri said.
Dr Attri said that the focus of the event was to train and familiarise surgeons with the latest stapling methodologies. "We aim to not only streamline surgical procedures but also enhance patient outcomes and
overall healthcare efficiency," he said.
Dr Iqbal Saleem, HoD, Department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar said that recent advancements in the surgical procedures like use of staplers have played an important role for the surgeons and patients as well.
"The use of staplers in surgical procedures have reduced the complications. These advanced technologies offer quicker recoveries, no complications, and less hospital stays. This one day workshop was to train
our junior surgeons about the importance of staplers in the surgical procedures," Dr Saleem said.
Organising Secretary Prof (Dr) Naseer Awan , Department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar said that the stapling techniques in surgical procedures have replaced the open surgeries in which doctors were using hand
stitches.
"This advanced technique helps prevent blood loss. Open surgery takes four hours, but this technique takes only an hour to operate the patients, " he said.The Department of Surgery, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar today virtually trained the surgeons for surgical staplers and stapling techniques in the field of medical science.
A workshop-CSEP on Surgical Staplers was organised by the Postgraduate Department of Minimal Access & General Surgery, GMC, Srinagar in which a large number of surgeons participated to enhance their skills.
