The family court remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and equitable resolution in family matters.

The Principal Judge Family Court in her address said that the whole brunt of parental separation is on the psychological as well as social wellbeing of children. Such children lose their self esteem and easily fall prey to many ill habits. In order to vent their rage and emotional turmoil, such children, especially boys resort to drug abuse.

“In light of parental conflict, the child becomes prone to anxiety, depression, discomfort and even struggle with his/her relationship in future. The effect may linger on even in their adult life just like their parents, they may find it difficult to maintain healthy relationships even when they're older,” she said, adding that while they grow up with their parents fighting with each other, they may find their aggressive nature normal and justified. Such children are prone to misconduct and behavioural problems that may lead them to further trouble.

Apart from that, children tend to have a pessimistic approach to life and a negative perception of people, leading to impaired social life and low self esteem. Every child looks up to their parents for advice, guidance and support, which is why, if parents reveal their most unpleasant selves to their kids, it is likely to confuse them, making them perplexed and uncomfortable, she said.

“Parents indulging in toxic arguments, name calling and throwing insults at each other can give away wrong impressions to the kids, leading to emotional damage.”
