Srinagar, Dec 10: The Department of Management Studies (DMS), University of Kashmir (KU), started a three-day workshop on data analysis in business research and econometrics at the main campus on Wednesday.

A statement of the KU issued here said that the workshop is designed to strengthen researchers’ analytical capabilities and introduce practical tools for handling and interpreting business data.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice Chancellor KU, Prof Nilofer Khan, said that universities must equip young researchers with skills that help them analyse and use data responsibly and meaningfully.

“Sound data practices lead to better research outcomes and informed decision-making. Workshops like this help scholars engage with evidence rather than assumptions,” she said.

Dean of Academic Affairs, KU, Prof Shariefuddin Pirzada, said that training in data analysis was essential for producing research that is both rigorous and relevant.

Dean Research KU, Prof Muhammad Sultan Bhat, Registrar KU, Prof Naseer Iqbal, and Dean, School of Business Studies KU, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi, also spoke on the occasion, noting that such platforms help young scholars build confidence in using analytical tools and understanding research methodologies.

They highlighted that strengthening skills in data handling and model interpretation is essential for producing reliable business research and for responding to emerging industry challenges.

Earlier, Head, DMS KU, Prof Bashir Joo, in his welcome address, said that the workshop is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to create practice-oriented learning spaces for emerging researchers.

The KU statement said that the three-day programme offers an intensive, application-based training environment, enabling participants to work directly with datasets, econometric models, and statistical software.

It features expert sessions and hands-on training modules covering key quantitative techniques used in contemporary research, the statement said.

It said that the workshop is being attended by research scholars from various higher educational institutions across Kashmir.
