Srinagar, Apr 12: A one-day workshop and mock drill on Disaster Management and Mitigation—focusing on Basic Life Support (BLS), Fire Safety, Flood Response, and Rope Rescue Techniques—was today conducted at Bilaliya Educational Institute (BEI).

The programme was held in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), and Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA).

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students, faculty members, local volunteers, and residents. The objective was to spread awareness, build capacity, and prepare communities—especially the youth—for responding efficiently during emergencies and disasters.

The programme was presided over by Masroor Ahmad Mir SSP Commandant SDRF 1st Bn Srinagar, who was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of Bilaliya Educational Institute. The chief guest took a tour of the campus and appreciated the efforts of the school administration for organizing such a meaningful and impactful initiative.

In his address, Mir emphasised the importance of having a disaster response team in every educational institution, underlining that preparedness is key to saving lives during crises. He lauded the school’s proactive approach and commitment to safety.

The Chairman of Bilaliya Educational Institute Manzoor Wangnoo expressed gratitude to the chief guest for his presence and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to forming a volunteer disaster response team that will work in close coordination with SDRF when needed.

As a gesture of goodwill and commitment to environmental stewardship, the Chairman of BEI announced a plantation drive to be carried out within the SDRF premises.

The event concluded with a live demonstration and hands-on mock drill conducted by SDRF officials, leaving a lasting impression on the participants and reinforcing the need for community-level disaster preparedness.
