Woman jumps into River Chenab, washed away in Ramban

Ramban, Nov 21: A young woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the fast-flowing River Chenab in Karool area of Ramban on Tuesday.

Sources said that a woman Mehzooba Begum, 36, wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Wani of Kundi, Karool, Ramban tracked down from her village and jumped into the fast flowing River Chenab near the Jaswal Bridge area of Karool.

They said that after jumping into the river, the woman got washed away.

Some people saw the woman getting washed away and informed the Police.

Soon after the incident, Police, SDRF, and local volunteers reached the spot and launched a rescue and search operation to trace the woman.

SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Nayeem Ahmad Matoo said that an unknown woman jumped into River Chenab in Karool area and a search operation was launched to trace her.

“We have received information that one Mehzooba Begum, 36, of Kundi, Karool, Ramban left her house and did not return. Police have registered a missing report at Police Station Ramban for further investigations,” he said.
