Woman arrested for murdering infant in Rajouri
Rajouri, June 23: An eight day old baby girl was found murdered in a village of Rajouri district and police have now arrested her mother for the murder.
The murdered baby was found lying dead under mysterious conditions in a dry pond in Kadma Prat village of Rajouris' Sunderbani police station.
As per officials, an information was received by police on Tuesday that body of a infant (new born baby) is lying in a pond having only two inches of water and is considered as a dry pond. Accordingly, they said, a team of police from Sunderbani police station reached the site and took body into possession and started necessary legal formalities and investigation into the matter.
During investigation, police officials said, the mother of victim infant alleged that she (infant) has been murdered by her husband. " The investigation was set into motion and role of victim's father was looked into. When it was found that he (victim's father) was not in area during the time of incident and left for Kashmir before the incident." the officials said further adding that the suspicion turned towards mother of victim who was detained for questioning.
" She broke during questioning and confessed for this crime," the officials said adding that the woman was having some domestic confrontation with husband and to settle scored with him, she murdered her infant and alleged her husband to have committed this crime.
" Initially, it has come to fore that she dropped her infant in pond under direct sun in this heat wave and the infant (baby girl) was left thirsty and hungry under direct sun exposure which became reason of her death," the officials of police said who also informed that a case of murder and other offenses under relevant sections of law have been registered in police station Sunderbani and further investigation is going on.
The accused woman has also been arrested and has been identified as Sharifa Begum wife of Mohammad Iqbal resident of Kadma Parat, they said.
