Woman among three drug peddlers arrested in north Kashmir's Baramulla

Baramulla, January 04: The Jammu and Kashmir have arrested three drug peddlers including a female in Baramulla and Sopore Police districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

The police in official handout said that a police party from Police Station Boniyar, headed by SHO Boniyar, intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint established at Bela Crossing Boniyar.

The Police have identified the individual as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Tariq Ahmad from Hundi Nowshera.

"During the search, 50 grams of a charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He was subsequently arrested," the police handout reads.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Boniyar, and an investigation has been initiated, it reads.

"During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a woman identified as Shameema Begum, wife of Mohammadd Maqbool Sheikh from Lari Kasi Boniyar," it reads.

Following this, a police team accompanied by the concerned magistrate, conducted a search of the woman's residence which resulted recovery of 62 grams of charas-like contraband substance and 1 kg of charas powder.

"The accused woman was arrested, and further investigations are underway to uncover the broader nexus of this illegal activity," the handout reads.

Meanwhile, Sopore Police arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband substances from his possession.

The suspect was apprehended on Janaury 3 of 2025 after a police team led by SHO Police Station Sopore Inspector Syed Ayaz Geelani established a checking point at Adipora Crossing. The team was supervised by SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir.

The accused has been identified as Owais Bashir Shakari from Shercolony, Sopore. "During his search the police recovered 5.10 grams of a substance resembling Brown Sugar. A case (FIR No. 01/2025) has been filed under the relevant sections of the law, and an investigation has begun," the police handout reads.
