Kupwara, Jan 11: The pristine Lolab Valley in north Kashmir's Kupwara district transformed into a vibrant cultural hub Saturday as crowds flocked to a spectacular winter festival celebrating the region's heritage and natural splendour.

Organised by the district administration and tourism department at Kariwan, Devar, the festival showcased Kashmir's rich traditions through a dynamic mix of activities. Visitors enjoyed traditional music performances, competitive snow volleyball, skiing exhibitions, and folk dance presentations while browsing stalls featuring local crafts, traditional cuisine, and cultural exhibits.

Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan highlighted how such events boost tourism while strengthening community bonds. DDC Chairman Irfan Sultan commended the collaborative effort to establish Kupwara as a premier tourist destination.

The festival drew several dignitaries, including DDC Vice Chairman Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir, SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani, and DDC Sogam Nasir Lone, alongside district officials and security force representatives.

Local residents enthusiastically endorsed the initiative, calling for similar events across the district. The festival's appeal extended beyond Kashmir, attracting tourists from across India. A visitor from Lucknow praised both the valley's stunning landscapes and the legendary Kashmiri hospitality, noting how locals had offered her family complimentary traditional meals.

"Lolab Valley should be on every Kashmir traveller's must-visit list," she remarked, impressed by the region's natural beauty and warm hospitality.
