Rajouri, Mar 3:  A woman and her three minor daughters were killed when their kutcha house was hit by a landslide in Majra Kund village of Chassana tehsil in Reasi district on Sunday.

Three other members of the family present inside the house, however, had a narrow escape. They received minor injuries in the incident.

Locals said that the entire area had been witnessing heavy rainfall and light snowfall for the past two days. The village falls under Mahore sub division of Reasi district.

They said, “During the intervening night of March 2 and 3, at around 2 am, a landslide hit one side of the village and the debris fell on their kutcha house which collapsed.”

“In this tragic incident, a woman and her three minor daughters sleeping inside the house died on the spot whereas three other members of the family escaped with minor injuries,” they stated.

Police identified the deceased as Phula Akhter, 26, wife of Muhammad Fareed and their three minor daughters - four-year-old Nasreen Koser; two-year-old Safreen Koser and one-year-old Amreen Koser.

Locals alleged, “The construction of a road from Kunderdhan to Mamankote is going on in the area. A portion of debris from the road construction site slipped downwards and resulted in a landslide, which later hit this house.”

Bodies of all four deceased were retrieved from the debris by locals while three injured members of the family were provided with immediate medical aid. Their condition was stated to be stable.

A team of administration including Sub Divisional Magistrate Mahore and Station House Officer also visited the site of the incident and met the members of the victims' family.

They assured every possible help to the family.
