Rajouri, May 28: A strong windstorm on Tuesday evening caused widespread losses and damage to property across twin districts Rajouri and Poonch, with many areas still reeling under darkness after electricity got snapped. The Power Development Department said it was making efforts to restore electricity. The administration is said to have been conducting loss assessment on field and is expecting to get statistics regarding losses by Thursday afternoon.

A woman Parveen Akhter (50), wife of Mohammad Arshad , resident of Gambhir Mughalan in Manjakote of Rajouri, who got injured after tree branches fell over her in the village amid storm, is also under treatment. The power infrastructure has also suffered widespread losses in windstorm with hundreds of electric poles got damaged, wires fell on the ground causing a power crisis.

Officials of Power Development Department said that electricity has been restored in most of the area but there is still a power crisis in some areas and work to restore electricity is underway. The power crisis, officials of Jal Shakti Department said, has affected water supply schemes and more than half of water supply schemes are affected.
